Our Private, Christian Middle School Program
With an emphasis on high school preparation and an active spiritual life, Harrisburg Christian School challenges students to perform to the best of their abilities for the glory of God. Our team of dedicated teachers and administrators prepares students to impact the world for Christ through rigorous academics, personalized attention, co-curricular activities, and spiritual development opportunities.
Harrisburg Christian School has a wide variety of engaging courses to challenge our students.
In Middle School, our focus is not to offer students a host of electives, as we do in the High School. The focus in Middle School is to develop a solid foundation while providing them with a broad range of experiences in preparation for High School and God’s purpose for their lives. Our “enrichment” course offerings in Middle School are two-fold: (1) to provide students an opportunity to learn about their God-given gifts and (2) to provide students with experiences that God may use later in their lives for His glory and purpose. A MS student at HCS will take the following “core” courses: Bible, Math, Science, English/Literature (separate classes in 6th and 7th grades), and History. Their “Enrichment” Courses include the following: Physical Education, Introduction to Spanish, Technology Education, Art, Music (Vocal Choir, Concert Band, and/or Handbell Choir), Introduction to Engineering, and High School Preparation Courses (Study Skills, Latin & Logic, and Career Exploration). In Mathematics, we continue to provide a wide range of courses that best meet student needs and provide the necessary challenge and preparation for high school and college entrance exams (i.e., SAT and ACT).
How We Teach Students About Their God-Given Gifts
The HCS Middle School program views each child as a unique individual created in God’s image with talents they can develop for God’s glory. At Harrisburg Christian School in Linglestown, PA, students will:
- Attend weekly chapel
- Participate in community service projects
- Go on spiritual development retreats
- Have the opportunity to explore their gifts in music, theater, art, athletics, and STEM
HCS Melds Rigorous Academics and Unapologetic Faith
HCS’s Middle School Christian program has small class sizes and low teacher-to-student ratios for optimal learning. Teachers can grant every child the care and attention they deserve while administrators take the time to understand students’ needs and wants. As a CSAGH school, we rely on the Bible to identify school standards and student behavior and expectations.
At HCS, corporate prayer is not only allowed, but it’s also an integral part of each day. We want our students to achieve their best — not out of necessity but out of a strong sense of purpose and desire to live out God’s plan. We prepare middle school students for high school, college, and beyond through excellent academics (including opportunities for AP courses and dual enrollment), extracurricular activities, and service projects.
All children have unique gifts that should be celebrated and cultivated in a positive, stimulating environment. In their middle school years, students are encouraged to foster Godly relationships with their classmates, grow in their relationship with God and practice Christian leadership and service. To inspire students to deepen their understanding of Christ and his command to “love your neighbor as yourself,” we offer a variety of service-learning opportunities such as:
- Day of service: Every year, our middle school and high school students take part in a Day of Service by volunteering to serve multiple non-profits across Central PA. Students and ministries benefit from this day and experience first-hand the life-changing implications of the Gospel for the glory of God.
- Student service learning: Although service-learning positions are generally granted to 11th- and 12th-grade students, we encourage them to start thinking of opportunities in middle school.
