One year only was spent at this location due to state construction of a highway cloverleaf upon the school site. In September of 1958, the school rented Fothergill Elementary School in Steelton for one year. Opening with 50 students and eight grades another location was secured at North Fifth Street in Harrisburg. Two years were spent at this location. The next four years found the school again renting a vacated public school in Highspire. When this facility was taken over by the local town government for other purposes, it become mandatory that the school build its own facility.
The existing campus contains twenty-four classrooms, STEM labs, a library, a Fine Arts Center, an Arts and Athletics Center, and a the Knight Cafe. Situated on beautiful Blue Mountain one mile from Linglestown, Harrisburg Christian School resides on 38 acres of fields, woods, and wetlands. Approximately eleven acres of the campus have been developed as athletic fields.
Young people who graduate from Harrisburg Christian School are well-prepared to pursue a bright future at institutions of higher learning and professions of their choosing. Our students earn many academic distinctions such as National Merit Scholar Finalist and National Hispanic Scholar Recognition Program Finalist. On average, approximately 90% of HCS graduates choose to attend a college or trade school, and PSAT & SAT scores are well above the state and national averages. Our graduates have attended a range of colleges, from Harvard and Duke to Penn State and Messiah College.
Students at Harrisburg Christian School have a wide range of options in academics, fine arts, competitive athletics, and extracurricular activities. We have 15 Advanced Placement Classes and many Dual Enrollment
opportunities with classes on campus and at local institutions . In addition, we have a long list of eLearning course options available through our partnership with the Capital Area Online Learning Association/Capital Area Intermediate Unit.
Our Arts and Athletics Center is home to the HCS Knights Boys and Girls Basketball teams, the K-12 physical education program, drama productions, summer skill-building sports camps, high school graduation and many other events that take place year-round, benefiting our school families and the area community. Completed in August 2000, this state-of-the-art athletic building, complete with locker rooms, concession facilities and a weight-training room, provides a tremendous enhancement to our many athletic offerings.
The Fine Arts Center, complete with music room, art room the Knights Cafe, and a multipurpose room, is our newest addition to the HCS campus. This $2.1 million-dollar facility was completed during the summer of 2001. The music room is specifically designed for optimum acoustics and the large open art room provides many opportunities for students of all ages to express their creativity. The cafeteria features a commercial kitchen and the dining/multipurpose seating area can also be used for chapel programs, assemblies, and meetings after school hours.
Harrisburg Christian School has a strong athletic program with opportunities at all grade levels for both genders, including MS/HS championship soccer,
basketball, track, baseball and lacrosse. We have a well-developed Fine Arts program including instrumental music lessons, band, concert choir, a capella, hand bell performances and competitions. Our facilities include a full theatrical stage, gymnasium facility, and multiple athletic fields. HCS stages a musical
annually and hosts a variety of athletic tournaments throughout the calendar year.
Our diverse student body is comprised of students and faculty from over 80 area churches and many different denominations.
